AMERICAN COUNCIL ON TEACHING OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES (ACTFL)
ACTFL is a membership community comprised of language education professionals who hold a strong passion for enhancing cultural richness and diversity within education, spanning across various levels. Collaboratively, they offer a range of resources designed to tackle challenges and adapt to the evolving requirements of language educators and their students. The innovative research, standards, assessments, professional development opportunities, and publications provided by ACTFL empower this community to drive forward the advancement of language learning practices. The South Asian Language Programs at New York University (NYU)
The South Asian Language Programs at New York University (NYU) were founded in 1995 by the late Professor Susham Bedi and since 1998 have been headed by Prof. Gabriela Nik Ilieva. They are housed in the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. Their initiatives and projects are also supported by the Hagop Kevorkian Center, NYU. Since 2008 a Hindi and Urdu Teacher Training Institute has run every summer at NYU and has trained more than 500 instructors from the U.S., India, Pakistan and several countries in Europe.

The Consulate General of India, New York
The Consulate General of India, known as New India House, is located in the Upper East Side Historic District of Manhattan. It serves the residents of ten states of the United States: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. The Consul General of India, Hon. Binaya S. Pradhan, encourages and supports all efforts related with promotion of Hindi in the United States. Mr. Pradhan is also the advisor of the Sixth International Hindi Conference and patron of Hindi Sangam Foundation, the organizer of the conference.
Mrs. Purnima Desai
Mrs. Purnima Desai, a resident of Queens, New York, is the Chairperson of Hindi Sangam Foundation, USA, and also heads two other non-profit organizations, Shikshayatan Cultural Organization and ShriNiketan Foundation, through which she has been promoting Indian culture in America for decades. Mrs. Desai is well versed in Indian music, dance and poetry recitation and has a special interest in work related to teaching Hindi.
Piyush J. Patel
Piyush J. Patel is an accomplished entrepreneur who has built a multi-million dollar conglomerate that spans the globe. Spread throughout the USA, Europe and Asia, Piyush has received numerous awards for his charitable work worldwide. He is the first person of Indian ancestry to be inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame for his business contributions and philanthropy with the Irish community. His business ventures encompass a multitude of industries, such as real estate development, manufacturing (water treatment, oil drilling, concrete additives), technology, hospitality and performing arts centers. Piyush maintains a simple lifestyle and devotes much time to humanitarian causes in both the USA and in his native land.
Dr. Mukund Thakkar
Dr. Mukund Thakkar, president and founder of Indian Nursing Home Program, began his career as a medical professional and he has established an Indian nursing home program to accommodate the Indian elderly. The Indian nursing home program was developed in 2005 by creating an environment where the Indian elderly would feel comfortable in their living arrangement and where their medical and personal needs are met to ensure their well-being and happiness. The accurate formula of medical care enriched with the Indian culture has revolutionized the way our senior citizens are cared for in nursing homes.
Yuva Hindi Sansthan
A three times winner of Fulbright-Hays award in collaboration with NYU, Yuva Hindi Sansthan is engaged in Hindi teaching in the USA since 2010. Founded by noted linguist Dr. Surendra Gambhir and presided over by Ashok Ojha since its inception, the organization is currently chaired by former NJ Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula. It pioneered in formal Hindi learning at noted educational institutions such as Kean University, Middlesex College, NJ as well as Bensalem and North Penn School District in PA through the federally funded STARTALK program.
Columbia University South Asia Institute
The South Asia Institute (SAI) promotes the study of the Indian subcontinent across the countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, across other regions in Asia and the Indian Ocean, and across global South Asia diasporic communities. The Institute organizes seminars, lecture series, and occasionally, conferences, that bring together faculty and undergraduate and graduate students with diverse interests and backgrounds. SAI partners with departments, centers, and institutes at Columbia, and works with South Asia groups on campus, in order to reach new audiences and facilitate an exchange of knowledge.
