Posted on Facebook-by Mrs. Nilakshi Phukan
Great to hear this inclusion of Padmashri Jadav Payeng’s inspiring story into US School Board of Education Curriculum! While working as the lead instructor for a federal government language and culture program, Sangam Franklin STARTALK Hindi program, sponsored by the National Security Agency and administered by the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland, our language educators also incorporated and created the curriculum along with learning plans including common individual’s stories - Jadab Payeng (Forest Man), Hima Das (First Indian runner, gold medalist, IAAF World U20 Championships), Purna Malavath (Youngest girl in the world to reached the Mount Everest summit), Dashrath Manjhi (Mountain Man), Afroz Shah’s (Champions of the Earth). These inspiring stories are ingrained with universal values and character building traits, such as respecting others, protecting the nature, dedication to a cause and community service, that allow students to think, pair and share ideas in groups on local and global issues. Students were fully engaged and served as ‘experts’ and interacted with each other to share information, ideas and insights. I wanted to congratulate all the educators of Sangam Franklin STARTALK Hindi program for their vision and collaborative execution plans including the Director Ashok Ojha, Mamta Tripathi, Sandhya Bhagat, Mainu Murmu and many more.
